Congratulations to Mark Priestley of Co Down, Northern Ireland for breeding the 2019 Suffolk Sheep Society Sire of the Year, Limestone Aston Martin. Son of ‘Strathbogie A Kind of Magic’, the 2018 Sire of the Year, out of a Limestone Dam. Aston Martin was the top price lamb in 2018 (40,000gns at Stirling) and is jointly owned by Ronan McLaughlin (Ballyboe Flock, Co Donegal) Andrew Wilson (Castleisle Flock, Co Donegal) and Mark Priestley (Limestone Flock, Co Down).
Aston Martins top three sons averaged 21,333gns with all three sold at Stirling. The first sold by M Priestley for 23,000gns to Seamus Browne’s Errigal Flock in Donegal. The next two were the top two prices from Andrew Wilson’s Castleisle pen, 21,000gns going to CJ Holmes Rookery flock in Worcester, and 20,000gns to Cork breeder Arthur O’Keeffe’s Annakisha flock.
With an average of 18,833gns, runner up was the Taylor bred Ballynacannon Noah owned by the Stuart family of Aberdeenshire (Birness flock). This Lakeview Inuendo sired lamb out of a Ballynacannon dam bred the 2019 top price 43,000gns ram lamb which was purchased by Northern Irish breeders Michael and Caolin McNally (Benedyglen flock), Dennis Taylor (Ballynacannon flock) and Mark Priestley (Limestone Flock). His other two top price ram lambs were sold at the National Sale in Shrewsbury for 7,200gns to S W Cobbald (Suffolk) and the 6,300gns National Breed Champion to D J Harvey of Powys.
