Gimmers
5 gimmers sold saw a 100% clearance and averaged £1732.50
A fewer than normal show of females this year saw 5 shearlings and 4 ewe lambs on offer and a change to the previous year’s sale these were sold in the morning rather than the Thursday evening to make way for the presentation, dinner and social evening which was a resounding success.
Shearling Gimmers were first away and topping the prices was Finn Christie, Maidenstone with Lot number 4 WHU:23:01625 a single ET lamb sired by Pyeston Prince, she was a full ET sister to the second prize in the Gimmers at this year’s Royal Highland show. Her full ET brother was sold to the Whitestone flock in 2023 and is maternal sister to the Royal Highland show breed Champion in 2023. N McDonald taking the sheep after some fierce bidding back to Bowmore on the Isle of Islay.
Second up was consigned by Graeme Christie, Balquain (father to Finn) who’s Gimmer was sired by Muirton Man of the Moment reached 2000gns at the fall of the hammer. A single ET PDN:23:01481 out of a home bred dam PDN:21:01184 the Dam’s maternal sister was sold to the South of Ireland privately who then went on to breed the Blessington Sale Champion in 2021. This one took the fancy of N Hannaway to become resident on the banks of Loch Lomond at Balloch
Samuel Milne (Grampian) consigned three Gimmers who averaged 683gns in a reluctant sale just to reduce numbers all sired by Bridgeview Belvenie.

A single ET lamb FHT:24:2508 sold for 40,000gns sired by Limestone Online and stood out as one of the family’s favourite lambs of the Solwaybank 2024 crop. It came from the same family as the 5000gns Solwaybank Saphire 2, who bred the 44000gns Ballintone Show stopper.
Reserve top spot was consigned by Lillia Hutchinson (Howgillfoot)for lot 156 being purchased by D McMenamin from Donegal in the South of Ireland for 30,000gns. Howgillfoot UTZ:24 :00486was a twin lamb derived from ET and was sired by the privately purchased Pyeston Real Deal and its Grand dam was a full sister to Lakeview Harbinger.
Solwaybanks second highest priced in the pen took the third-place spot in the 2024 highest price table. Solwaybank’s first lot through quietened the crowd as the bids rolled in, lot 51 Solwaybank FHT:24:02P1624 taking the experienced eye of Phil Poole (Salopian) at 25,000gns. The ET single lamb was one of the strongest lambs of the year as it grew out and it shares the same famed parentage as the top price lamb above.
Up and coming breeder Finn Christie (Maidenstone)has a good eye for stock as his entry lot number 45 attained 15000gns as the hammer fell. The lamb was first in the Novice class at the show, going on to be reserve overall breed champion. Sired by Castleisle Blackadder the single ET lamb was from a home bred Maidenstone dam WHU:22:01398 which was overall champion at the Royal Highland Show in 2023. He is heading back up from whence he came to join the JC Innes, Strathbogie Flock in Aberdeenshire.
Two further lots at 10,000gns shared the next spots in the price table for 2024.
Jed Sharps (Sharps) entry, lot 33 a single ET lamb WPT:24:00429 a Sportsmans Striker son and a dam that ranks as one of the flocks top dams Hawshill WPT:20:00024. Second at 10,000gns and one of the last lots through the ring at lot number195 from JC Innes Strathbogie. SUT:24:08503 a single ET lamb sired by last years top priced lamb at the National sale at Shrewsbury, Rempstone Gambler. Its Dam was Strathbogie show ewe in 2022 and stood third at the Royal Highland Show and its Grand Dam was breed Champion at the Royal Highland in 2018 so it’s from a great breeding family.
