Members and friends from the North Antrim & East L/Derry Suffolk Sheep Club celebrated another very successful year at their prize giving ceremony at the Manor House in Kilrea on Friday 28th October.
Members and friends from the North Antrim & East L/Derry Suffolk Sheep Club celebrated another very successful year at their prize giving ceremony at the Manor House in Kilrea on Friday 28th October. The event was another opportunity for its members to raise further funds for Diabetes the clubs selected Charity for 2011.
Club Chairman Philip Gurney welcomed everyone and gave a special welcome to Mr Stephen Kane from the Ulster Bank who was accompanied by his wife Leslie.
Philip highlighted the events which had taken place over the season and thanked everyone who had played a role in ensuring their success; he spoke about the fat lamb competitions, summer shows, the club summer gala show night and charity BBQ which raised over £1100 for the clubs charity Diabetes. He thanked all the businesses who had donated gifts for this event. He also highlighted the clubs successful show and sales which he said had ensured an action packed season.
These events and the success of many club members at Branch and National level which Philip highlighted were good for the club. Philip presented special gifts to Martina McVicker & Zillah McCaughan whose good work had contributed greatly at events throughout this year and past years.
Philip also told members that this year had seen a further resurgence in the Suffolk breed and with its many attributes is regaining its rightful place as the number one terminal sire with late season sales still attracting demand and good prices.
Mr Stephen Kane Ulster Bank in his remarks praised the club for its work, he spoke positively about the Suffolk breed and how his Bank were delighted to support the club and wished the club success in the future.
Special mention was made of the clubs Sponsors by Vice Chairman Robert Hanna, Robert said the Club are indebted to the following - Lamonts Butchers, Thompsons Feeds, Glens Farm Supplies, Kilrea Market, Corby Rock Feeds, The Northern Bank & The Ulster Bank all who have given tremendous support over the year.
