ESSC Annual carcass competition

The Eastern Suffolk Sheep Club held their annual carcass competition yesterday (Wednesday 17th April).  The competition was held at C H Leech & Son with a total of 25 lambs forward.  There were classes for pure bred Suffolks and cross-bred lambs sired by a Suffolk with each class broken down into light and heavy classes – under and over 19kg dw.

The competition was remarkable for the fact that all of the entrants had either a first, second or third place which was testament to the high quality of lambs entered.  Winners of each class were:

Pure bred over 19kg -  Tom Stocking
Pure bred under 19kg – Chris & Sarah Partridge
Cross Bred over 19kg – David Hughes
Cross bred under 19kg – Martyn & Helen Bateman

The reserve champion was a Suffolk cross from David Hughes with the overall champion being a pure bred heavy lamb from Tom Stocking.
